A foot-control setup for reviewing subtitles

Pedal Four can supply four configurable foot inputs for a subtitle-review workflow. The useful role is controlling playback or moving between cues while your hands make notes or edit text. A pedal does not understand subtitle timing or language. Choose the review application's supported commands and keep navigation distinct from operations that shift or rewrite captions.

Which review actions are repeated most often?

Observe a short review pass and list the actions you repeatedly use: play or pause, return to an earlier point, move to another cue and focus the subtitle text. The exact commands depend on the media or subtitle editor. Test them from the ordinary keyboard before creating a pedal layout.

Check whether playback shortcuts work while a text field is active. Some applications interpret a key as text in that context. A mapping that works in the video pane may not behave the same way while you are correcting a caption, so record the required focus state.

What should the four controls represent?

Choose a small coherent group based on the available commands, such as playback plus cue navigation. Label the actual behaviour rather than simply Forward and Back, which could mean a cue change, a time jump or frame movement. Those differences matter when checking whether text appears at the right moment.

Leave a pedal unused if you do not have a reliable supported action for it. Avoid a sequence that clicks a remembered timeline position and presses a key. The timeline scale or panel layout can change, making the same sequence target a different moment.

Where should timing edits remain?

Keep shifting cue boundaries, deleting captions and applying bulk changes in the visible editor workflow while evaluating the controls. These operations modify the subtitle file and need a check of the selected cue and scope. Do not combine advancing to another cue with automatically accepting the current one.

Use a working copy during setup. Confirm whether the application saves edits automatically and how its normal undo or version process works. A pedal profile should not obscure the difference between playing the media and altering the subtitle data.

How do you verify the setup before a full review?

Try a short passage with known caption issues and move between playback, text editing and notes. Check a held press for repeated movement and confirm the media application receives the input after switching windows. Keep the ordinary controls available as a fallback. The Pedal Four product page describes configurable input hardware; subtitle-editor compatibility and each playback binding need verification in the software you use.
