A Four-Pedal Foot Switch for Roo Code: Keep Modes Visible
Pedal Four costs $85. Four ribbed targets sit side by side in a row on one flat steel plate, wired over USB. A fourth position adds input capacity, but output, remapping, dimensions, grip and platform compatibility are unconfirmed. Roo Code's modes and approvals need more context than a floor control provides.
What does a fourth pedal do that matters in Roo Code?
It may add one more reversible editor destination, such as Roo view, editor, terminal and source control. Capacity matters only when each location is physically distinct and the active application is known.
Do not fill a fourth mapping merely because hardware provides it. Leave unused positions disabled.
Can a pedal cycle Roo's modes?
Roo supports multiple built-in and custom modes, and its Auto-Approve policy can govern mode switching. Cycling blindly hides which mode becomes active and which tools or instructions it carries. An official toggle for global Auto-Approve is also too consequential for the floor.
Select a mode in the visible interface after reading its role. Keep permission state explicit.
How do you map Save and Reject through editor keybindings?
Do not. Roo's tool UI presents Save and Reject with the proposed operation. A key sequence, Tab count or coordinate click can land elsewhere when the panel changes. No product fact establishes a supported route.
Bind only verified neutral chords to editor focus commands found in the installed Keyboard Shortcuts view.
Is stomping a mode switch faster than typing it?
Perhaps by a moment, but speed is not the useful measure. Count wrong modes, glances at the floor, accidental presses and recovery time. A visible mode selector may be slower and much clearer.
Activate outside positions first, test shoes and seated or standing reach without making universal comfort claims, and keep the cable out of the walking path. In a disposable workspace, focus every editable surface and press each control. No character, command, approval or policy change should occur. Reboot, plug the plate back in, and confirm the stale profile is gone. The Pedal Four belongs with Roo Code only when four direct views remain unambiguous. Compare the plate with four normal keyboard shortcuts during a harmless editing block. Log unused positions and every mistaken target. If the wide board causes twisting, balance concerns or frequent visual checking, fewer controls are better. Lock the workstation or unplug the device when unattended so an inviting floor control cannot act in another person's session.
