Check microphone permissions after a browser update
Voice Pad supplies keypad controls and a microphone, but a browser transcription service still needs permission to capture audio. If dictation stops after an update, treat the timing as a clue rather than proof of a browser defect. Check the site's access, the browser's operating-system permission and the selected input before changing the hardware configuration.
What does the page report?
Read the visible error or recording status. Permission denied, no input found and a transcription service error describe different failure stages. Copy the message into your notes so you can compare it with the service's current help information.
Try the site's own capture button in a draft session. If the same error appears without a hardware shortcut, focus on browser capture rather than remapping the keypad. If the mouse control succeeds, inspect the shortcut assignment and which window receives the keypress.
Where should you check access?
Open the browser's settings for the exact site you are using and inspect its microphone permission. A related domain, another browser profile or a private browsing window can have different access. Verify the address before granting anything, particularly if a service redirected you during sign-in.
Check operating-system privacy settings for microphone access by that browser as well. The site cannot necessarily overcome a restriction applied at the system level. Use the browser's documented steps for your current version; menu labels and the need to reopen an application can differ.
Should you reset every permission?
Start with the specific microphone setting relevant to the failed recording. Resetting unrelated permissions or clearing all browsing data can sign you out and remove useful context without addressing the fault. Keep the troubleshooting change small enough that its effect can be observed.
After adjusting access, follow any displayed instruction to reload the page or restart the browser. Save unsent writing beforehand. Recheck the selected microphone after reopening because a permission prompt and a device selector solve different parts of the setup.
How do you confirm the repair?
Record a brief, non-sensitive sentence using the on-screen control and confirm that the application receives speech. Stop recording, review the text and then repeat through the hardware key. This order separates restored audio access from shortcut behaviour.
If capture works but transcription fails, check the service's availability and account state rather than repeatedly granting access. Preserve the error details for support without sharing private recordings unnecessarily. The Voice Pad hardware overview explains the device's role; browser permissions and service operation require their own checks.
