Dictation types numbers when you wanted words
Whisper Key can help capture spoken text through compatible dictation software, but the software decides how spoken numbers are formatted. A phrase may become digits, words or a date-like expression depending on the recogniser and context. When the format matters, test the tool's behaviour and review the result for the actual document. The device does not determine those formatting rules.
Is the problem appearance or meaning?
Distinguish a harmless style difference from a changed value. Writing a quantity in words instead of digits can be an editorial choice, while losing a decimal point or changing a version string alters meaning. Identify which kind of correction is required before adjusting a global dictation setting.
Use a neutral test sentence containing the same type of number. Keep real account numbers and private identifiers out of the experiment. Compare the recognised value and formatting separately, because a visually polished output can still contain the wrong quantity.
Does the tool offer a relevant formatting option?
Read the current transcription application's settings or command documentation. Some tools provide number-formatting preferences or language-specific commands; others leave the choice to automatic processing. Do not assume a command from another voice application will be recognised rather than inserted as literal text.
Test any supported option in a draft document and inspect its effect on ordinary prose as well as numeric content. A setting that helps a report may be less useful when describing software versions or code identifiers. Keep the change scoped to the workflow where it solves a real problem.
When should you enter the exact value manually?
Type or copy values that must preserve a precise representation, then compare them with the trusted source. This is useful for version strings, filenames containing numbers and command arguments. Voice can still provide the surrounding explanation without being responsible for every exact token.
Avoid reading a long value aloud repeatedly until it happens to look right. That can consume attention while leaving you uncertain about which attempt is current. A deliberate manual insertion and source comparison are often clearer than trying to force a particular recogniser convention.
How do you review a finished draft?
Check quantities, units, punctuation and context together. Confirm that a number belongs to the right object and that a spoken correction did not leave both the old and new versions in the text. Apply the document's preferred style after meaning is verified. The Whisper Key setup information explains the hardware role; number interpretation and final formatting remain part of the transcription software and editorial workflow.
