Macropad shortcuts stop working after sleep

KM16 Macropad adds dedicated shortcut keys to a desk, but a wake-from-sleep failure can happen beyond the keypad. The computer may need to reconnect a dock, a remapping utility may no longer be active, or a browser configuration session may have closed. Capture what stopped working before unplugging everything, because a broad reset removes the evidence you need.

Is the computer receiving any input from the pad?

Open an empty local document and test a key whose output you understand. Do not test a saved terminal command or a shortcut that could send a message. If a simple key still arrives, the USB connection is carrying input and the problem may sit in the shortcut interpretation. If nothing arrives, compare the main keyboard and other devices on the same dock.

Try a direct connection when the computer has a suitable port. Keep the cable and configuration unchanged for that comparison. A successful direct test suggests investigating the intervening connection, but it does not prove the hub is defective. Power, reconnection and port behaviour can all affect the result.

Did the remapping software resume?

Open the utility you use and inspect whether the expected profile is enabled. Some setups store a mapping on the device; others translate events on the computer. The two can look identical during normal use but behave differently when the host utility stops. Identify which method your profile actually uses.

For example, Microsoft documents that PowerToys must remain running for Keyboard Manager remaps to apply. If reopening that utility restores the action, record this dependency before investigating startup settings. Do not add several automatic launch mechanisms for the same process.

Is only the browser configuration session disconnected?

A closed configuration connection is not the same as a keyboard that cannot type. Test normal input separately from the page used to edit mappings. Browser-based hardware tools can maintain their own device connection and permission state. Reopen the trusted configuration site through its normal chooser when necessary.

Do not grant device access to an unfamiliar site merely because it offers a quick diagnosis. Keep the investigation within the tool intended for your hardware and operating system. Firmware replacement is not a sensible first response to a symptom that appears only after waking.

What result is useful to save?

Record the connection path, whether basic input worked, the active remapper and which single action restored operation. Repeat one sleep-and-wake cycle when your work is saved. That gives you a reproducible report rather than a vague claim that the pad is unreliable. Review KM16 Macropad's setup information alongside the specific utility requirements for your machine.
