Accepting GitHub Copilot Suggestions With Your Feet
Pedal Three is a three-pedal USB foot switch you can map to accept, reject and push-to-talk. For GitHub Copilot specifically, the honest picture is mixed: accepting an inline completion is already a single keystroke under your fingers, so a pedal doesn't save you a hand movement there. Where it earns its place is the chat panel and any agent-style multi-file proposals your editor supports, where reviewing and confirming a change can otherwise mean reaching for a mouse click.
Why would Copilot's review loop need a pedal at all?
Because not everything in Copilot is a single ghost-text keystroke. Chat replies you have to read and respond to, and multi-step proposed edits in editors that support them, both involve pausing to review before you commit to accept or reject. The same shape as reviewing a diff in a terminal agent. Your feet are doing nothing during that pause, and the Pedal Three puts accept and reject there instead of on a mouse click across the desk.
What can each pedal actually do?
- Each of the three pedals can send a key, a modifier combination, a text string, or a mouse click, independently programmed.
- It's bus-powered over USB, so there's no battery to charge and no pairing step.
- It enumerates as a standard keyboard, so it works the instant you plug it in; a driver is only needed to change what the pedals send.
Does it work on my machine?
The pedals work on any platform once programmed. The configuration utility itself is Windows-first, so the easiest path is to set the mapping on a PC once and then use the pedal anywhere, macOS and Linux included, with whatever it was last programmed to send.
Who should skip the pedal and just use the keyboard?
If your Copilot usage is almost entirely inline completions that you accept with a keystroke you're already resting a finger near, a foot pedal replaces a motion that wasn't costing you anything. The cheap alternative, your existing keyboard shortcut, wins for that workflow outright. This is a hardware upgrade for people who spend real time in chat and multi-file review, not for people who type code and glance at ghost text.
