The EM Mini Pad is a six-key Bluetooth aluminium macropad with a knurled rotary knob, small enough to live permanently between your keyboard and your mug. It runs wired over USB-C or wireless over Bluetooth on a 1000 mAh internal cell, and the smoked keycaps let you watch the switches actuate.

What is the EM Mini Pad?

A very small, very heavy anodised aluminium block on a brushed silver plinth. Six smoked transparent keycaps sit recessed into the top in a three-by-two grid, with the switch mechanism visible working under each one, and a knurled knob at the corner. This is the third-generation Pro revision.

What is the EM Mini Pad for?

Volume and mute on the knob, four shortcuts on the keys, and the sixth mapped to a boss key that minimises whatever is on screen. It claims almost no desk space, which is why it stays on the desk rather than in a drawer.

How do you use the EM Mini Pad?

  1. Connect over USB-C, or unplug and pair over Bluetooth.
  2. Twist the knurled knob for volume or scroll.
  3. Assign the six keys to your most repeated shortcuts.
  4. Keep one key as a boss key that hides everything at once.

How does the EM Mini Pad compare?

Against the KM16 Macropad, the EM Mini Pad gives up ten keys and two knobs and gains Bluetooth and a much smaller footprint. Buy the EM Mini Pad for volume, mute and a boss key within arm's reach; buy the KM16 if you need a real macro layer.

Frequently asked questions

How many keys does the EM Mini Pad have?

Six, in a three-by-two grid, plus one knurled rotary knob at the corner.

Does the EM Mini Pad work wirelessly?

Yes. It is dual mode: USB-C when you want it wired, or Bluetooth running off a 1000 mAh internal lithium cell.

Why are the keycaps transparent?

They are smoked polycarbonate, so you can see the mechanical switch actuating underneath. It is decorative rather than functional, and it is the reason people photograph this one.

What is a boss key?

A single key mapped to minimise or hide everything on screen at once. This pad is sold partly for exactly that purpose.

What to know before buying

Two flags. The EM Mini Pad is a Bluetooth radio, so we want the FCC test report before shipping it in the United States; and its 1000 mAh lithium cell requires UN38.3 documentation and cannot travel on every air service.
